Organic Chemistry Department

The central direction of scientific research of the chair is development and application of new methods of organic synthesis in the synthesis of biologically active natural substances and their analogues. The main research topics are:

• Design of target specific ionic liquids; development of biodegradable and minimally toxic ionic liquids (Leading researcher E. Baķis);
• Design and use of chiral nucleophilic catalysts in stereoselective synthesis (Head: Prof. E. Sūna);
• Development of electrochemical synthesis methods (Head: Prof. E. Sūna); 
• Total synthesis of biologically active natural substances and their analogues (Head: Prof. E. Sūna).

The chair also implements evaluation of the quality of food products and analysis of the content of harmful substances (Head: Assoc. Prof. I. Jākobsone).
